How to choose your best bed linen ever

Fabric choise

Are you looking for beddings for perfect sleep and empowering recovery? Here are some tips how to make a choice of your bed sheets. In this blog we will discuss the properties of the fabrics out of which the bed linen is produces and their advantages.

Sateen

Sateen is a fabric woven using a sateen weave. It is this satin weave that gives sateen a shine and a feeling of softness, making sateen an alternative to silk. Although the vast majority of sateen is woven from cotton, sateen bedding creates an atmosphere of luxury and comfort. This buttery smooth touch makes sateen sheets to stand out among other cotton sheets. Yes, sateen fabric not only has a pleasant, silky shine and is very soft to the touch, it is also more densely woven. As a consequence the sateen sheets are more breathable and warmer than other cotton beddings, as well as long-lasting in use. This makes sateen beddings an ideal choice for people more sensitive to cold, because it simultaneously retains heat and prevents overheating throughout the whole night regardless of the season. Moreover, sateen is more wrinkle-resistant than other fabrics letting the sateen sheets look sleek and gorgeous for longer.

If that sounds like a good choice for you, you may check some of the examples in our Premium Collection.

Percale, flax

If you are a hot sleeper, sateen may seem too warm. Although sateen allows air to circulate freely and it is amazing at any time of the year, you may like lighter fabrics. These include, for example, percale and flax. Both of these fabrics give a feeling of coolness, freshness and comfort. In particular, percale is made only from long-fiber cotton and originates from India. In Europe, it appeared only at the turn of the XVII-XVIII centuries and quickly captured the hearts of the elite: it was percale who was used for beddings for the royal bedrooms. The popularity of percale among the elite is due to the fact that percale fabric is strong and durable, but at the same time thin and delicate, velvety to the touch, has no lint and pills, able to pass air and absorb moisture, and it is also environmentally friendly. Another advantage of percale is that it is easy to wash as stains are not absorbed into the deeper layers of the fabrics.

As for flax, the wealthy Romans began to use natural flax fabric in the V-IV century BC. And although today flax as well as percale have become more affordable, due to their properties, these fabrics have not lost their luxury status.

Poplin & Calico

Poplin belongs to strong fabrics, but it is less strong and dense in comparison to percale. Poplin perfectly retains heat, but at the same time perfectly passes air through. It is ideal for people with sensitive skin, as it does not cause allergies and it also feels pleasant to the touch. Perhaps the only disadvantage of this fabric is that the fabric needs to be ironed after each wash. But it should not be a reason to worry as the fabric is easy to be ironed.

Calico, one of the most popular and sought-after fabrics, has a cotton structure and is made using plain weave. Thanks to its textile weave the cloth is strong enough and hard-wearing. The density of calico can vary from high to low, has a matte texture. Even if the calico fabric is not as elegant and gorgeous as sateen, it is practical, durable and affordable. In cool weather it warms, while in heat it guarantees the high level of thermoregulation. Calico fabric is quite easy to care for - dust particles and dirt are easily washed out from the fabric texture and it is also easy to iron. The natural composition of the fabric gives it hypoallergenic power, and therefore it is suitable for babies from the first days of life, as well as for people of all ages.  The only disadvantage of the fabric might be  that over time pills may appear on the fabric.

We have also prepared for you some of the beddings from poplin and calico in our Traditional collection.

Flannel

In the cold season, we want comfort more than ever, and here the ideal choice would be a smooth and soft flannel set. Flannel is a soft fabric with one-sided or two-sided pile. The fabric warms up very quickly and pass the air through, absorbs moisture well and is hypoallergenic. Flannel beddings will immerse you in an atmosphere of comfort, peacefulness and warmth. Especially in winter, thanks to the flannel, you will be so pleased to indulge in a warm bed!
